“Wagen: In blauw een zilveren schip tussen twee zwarte rotsen”
The family moto, loosely translating from Dutch to “In the Blue, a silver ship sails between two black rocks”, guiding them to travel a straight path in life.
THE BRIEF = Freestanding item depicting the family crest, for a family members 60th birthday present.
Not my usual type of commission, but just as special, if not more. I do like a challenge and the background research on this piece was so intriguing!
Lots of googling and genealogy websites, and I even found an e-book of the Nederland’s (an annual containing details of the most important patrician non-noble families of the time!).
Tiffany copper foiling technique, kiln fired paint and intricate wire overlay to add the ship rope details.
