4 beautiful design options, suitable for complete beginners or those looking for a refresher!
Service Description
New for 2027 - Come join us for a fabulous 3 hour stained glass taster session, creating suncatchers and pot stakes inspired by the Cumbrian wildlife and landscapes! And what better place to be take inspiration from at our NEW venue for 2027- Kelsick Grammar Community Space - overlooking Ambleside and the Langdales, right next to Stock Ghyll Force Waterfalls and the fantastic Force Cafe. Suitable for complete beginners or those who have tried glass crafts before, we will start with a brief introduction to the craft of stained glass art and then guide you through how to cut and shape stained glass pieces safely using traditional heritage skills but with a contemporary twist! Over 3 hours, I will then be explain and demonstrate how to connect the pieces together using the Tiffany copper foiling technique, to create one of 4 gorgeous designs on offer, using a selection of modern, antique and reclaimed glass. Which will you choose? - 2 beautiful flower stems or delicate butterfly to place in a pot, or maybe a monstera leaf to hang in your window or mountain skyline to sit on the windowsill?! All tools, materials and safety equipment will be provided. However, due to the nature of the craft, please ensure you are wearing closed shoes (no sandals, crocs or sling-backs) and that long hair is tied back. If you wear reading glasses, it is also advisable to bring these for the close detail work!! As the soldering process does involve lead based products, it is not advisable for pregnant women to attend and children between the ages of 16 & 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. THE VENUE - Kelsick Grammar & Force Cafe. Kelsick grammar, a former school and then part of the University of Cumbria until 2012, the building fell into a state of disrepair until it was saved from demolition by the global development organisation 'Impact'. Working collaboratively with Force Cafe, the space is now a stunning, high spec coworking and meeting space for freelancers, organisations and local groups, once again being a centre for education, learning and community. For this workshop, we have hired one of the light and airy meeting spaces which opens out onto a grassy patio area with the most stunning views over Ambleside. Ample free parking. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the sessions, or feel free to pop next door to the utterly delicious Force Cafe! And after, why not take the short gentle stroll to experience the power of the waterfalls?
